Wind River is unique in that it is the only reservation in which two separate federally recognized tribes reside. The Reservation is also unique because it has led the way in preserving and protecting natural resources. The Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes took the initiative to establish a 180,000-acre roadless area in the 1930\u2019s. That\u2019s 26 years before the federal government designated the first wilderness area in the United States!
